RICA Deadline Extension
Per the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), Assembly Bill 121: Education Finance, recently signed into law, contains provisions to allow specified candidates until October 31, 2025 to take and pass RICA and extend the date by which candidates may use two years of induction or two years of satisfactory teaching to waive COVID-era teaching performance assessment deferrals AND added RICA to these provisions.

Revised RICA Passing Score
The CTC also recently provided additional details on the budget trailer bill AB 121 (Chap. 8, Stats. 2025). This bill gives authority to the CTC to apply the new minimum passing standard adopted at its October 2024 meeting to individuals who took any version of the RICA on or after July 1, 2015 and received a score of 198 or higher for the written versions or 197 or higher for the video version. Program Sponsor Alert (PSA) 25-10 is now available on the Commission’s website.
