As a Resident in PUC TRP, you will:
- Build a network of collaborative connections with cohort members.
- Observe, collaborate, co-teach, and practice instructional skills with a matched Mentor Teacher for an entire school year.
- Engage in one-on-one coaching and support tailored to your development.
- Develop positive relationships with students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and staff.
- Have your Induction costs fully paid for by the program (a $4,000 savings)
Benefits that Uplift Financially and Scholastically
As a Resident in PUC TRP, you will:
- Earn a combined salary PLUS a living stipend, totaling between $47,000 and $58,000, depending on prior experience. Benefits also provided.
- Receive a scholarship valued at ~35% cost reduction to attend Loyola Marymount University School of Education’s online Teacher Credential Program as a full-time online student.
Supports to Ensure Success
As a Resident in PUC TRP, you will:
- Engage in relational mentorship, coaching, and support from Mentor Teacher, TRP Coordinator, and LMU Fieldwork Instructor.
- Connect with fellow residents to discuss learning and practices from LMU course work, school professional developments, and school experiences during weekly Resident Seminars.
- Process challenging events and experiences with PUC TRP wellness supports.
- Build confidence, competence, and your teacher identity through a gradual release of responsibility in and out of the classroom.
- Gen Ed Residents begin the year with observations, gradually taking more responsibility of the classroom until they independently teach for at least three full weeks by the end of the year.
- Inclusion Residents, likewise, begin the year with intentional observations, and gradually develop instructional and case management skills until they independently teach some lessons and develop and implement a full IEP by the end of the year.
Program Costs
Financial Costs:
While PUC TRP offers Residents a substantial financial package of a salary, a stipend, benefits, and a partial tuition scholarship at LMU, each Resident is responsible for other costs associated with earning their credential.
Tuition Costs at LMU for the 2026-27 school year, inclusive of the scholarship:
- ~$21,000 for Single Subject credential
- ~$30,000 for Special Education with Multiple Subjects Credential
As a PUC Schools Teacher Resident employee for the 2026-27 school year, you'll receive an additional stipend of $9814 to offset the LMU tuition costs.
Final out-of-pocket tuition costs for PUC Schools employees only is:

Additional Costs to Residents: Requirements for Program Admittance
- Live Scan $80

- EdTPA Assessment Fee $300
- US Constitution (may be required for some) $85
- CSETs: For those whose undergraduate degree does not satisfy the Subject Matter Competency Requirement (SMCR), some Residents may have to take the California Subject Examinations for Teachers, or CSET (read CSET page carefully to determine which tests you may need to take)
- CSET subtests $72-99 each
- Total costs range from $198 - $400 depending on subject area
- Residents often find they need to re-take CSET subtests, and therefore the above numbers may not reflect your actual CSET exams cost.
TRP 5-year Commitment:
As a PUC TRP Resident, you commit to a five-year program with PUC Schools:
- Year 1: Residency Year
- Years 2-5: Through priority hiring, work as a credentialed teacher at a PUC School for a minimum of the next four years
Time Commitments and Habits for a Successful Residency Year:
- Eight hour work days, Monday through Friday
- LMU virtual classes meet two evenings a week, three hours each
- Suggested study time for LMU classes, 6-9 hours per week
- Suggested study time for CSETs, 2-4 hours per week
- Suggested study and planning time to prepare for lesson plans, 4 hours per week
