Our Partners

Partnerships isn’t just a word in our namesake, Partnerships to Uplift Communities; it’s what we do! Building meaningful and relational partnerships that support the success of our communities, our students, and our Residents,  PUC Teacher Residency Program actively seeks and maintains collaborations with a number of organizations in order to provide the best pre-service teacher preparation possible.

LMU

LMU
TRP’s longest partnership is with Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education, formalized in 2014, to offer a joint teacher residency program designed to strengthen teacher retention rates and increase student learning in our schools.  The success of the collaboration between PUC TRP and LMU originates in the philosophical alignment driving the two organizations. The mission of PUC Schools is to uplift communities in Northeast Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley through the creation of high-quality public charter schools in which students are inspired and prepared to graduate from high school and university and commit to uplift their communities now and forever. The LMU School of Education (SOE) is guided by their mission to encourage learning, educate  the whole person, and promote justice. By intention and philosophy, both organizations invite individuals diverse in talents, interests, and cultural backgrounds to enrich our educational community. To maintain this strong, authentic partnership, TRP and LMU staff meet weekly to provide updates, discuss student progress, align coursework and clinical experiences, and problem-solve any real time challenges. As a result of our collaboration, Residents are provided with a generous scholarship from LMU towards their credential and masters program costs, as well as a well supportive clinical practice experience that develops and refines the skills and knowledge they learn through university coursework.

240 Tutoring

240 Tutoring

Our newest partner, 240 Tutoring offers pre-service teachers with effective and efficient test preparation materials and tools so that Residents can quickly overcome one of the biggest hurdles in their journeys to become teachers: meeting the state’s Subject Matter Competency Requirements (SMCR).  One very common way to meet the SMCR is to take and pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET). Each subject matter CSET contains multiple subtests that are historically difficult to pass. TRP’s partnership with 240 Tutoring provides our Residents with study guides, quizzes, and practice tests guaranteed to help them successfully pass their exams all at a 50% discount. SRTAC

SRTAC and The Residency Lab

In order to ensure the success and sustainability of California residencies, the state created two offices dedicated to providing research-based tools, resources, and other supports directly to residency programs. The Residency Lab (The Lab) offers direct assistance to programs aligned to The Lab’s 10 Key Characteristics of Effective Residencies that help program leaders design, improve, and elevate residency practices. The Lab works in concert with the Statewide Residency Technical Assistance Center (SRTAC), these supports leverage expert advisement, coaching, and networking through the work of five regional hubs around the state. PUC TRP is a proud partner with The Lab and SRTAC, not only benefiting from their services and attending statewide residency events, but also speaking at annual conferences and hosting residency leaders from across the state to visit our program.

nctr

NCTR

Founded in 2007, The National Center for Teacher Residencies is an organization dedicated to transforming educator preparation by advancing residency models to better prepare, support, and retain highly qualified teachers who represent the communities they serve around the country. Through needs-based coaching and consulting services offered in tandem with Communities of Practice, policy advocacy, and professional development, NCTR’s partnership directly impacts and elevates the quality of PUC TRP’s program for Residents and their Mentors.  TRP is a grateful partner with NCTR, actively participating in and hosting national residency events and providing learning-based workshops and talks at their annual symposium.
