Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements to Apply:
Applicants may be a community member with a connection to the communities we serve in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, a current employee of or volunteer at PUC Schools, and/or a PUC alumnus. Requirements include:
BA/BS degree
- Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree (in any subject area), or be on track to receive a Bachelor’s degree, by June.
- *Individuals with a GPA below 3.0 may apply, but must include a one-page explanation of the circumstances that contributed to a lower GPA in order to be considered.
- Degree from an accredited university
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher*
- Possession of a BA or BS satisfies the state requirements for Basic Skills, so applicants no longer need to take the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
Subject Matter Competency Requirement
Applicants are required to demonstrate progress towards meeting the Subject Matter Competency Requirement (SMCR) before submitting their application. Applicants must demonstrate a passing score or official waiver on at least two (2) CSET subtests in their chosen subject*, by:
- Submitting evidence of undergraduate coursework or a degree that meets the SMCR or waives one or more CSET subtests, and/or
- Submitting evidence of passing a minimum of two (2) CSET subtests, and/or
- A combination of the above.
*Applicants who are unable to meet the SMCR prior to submitting their applications can reach out to the Program Coordinator, Jenna Kamp, at [email protected], for information on how to proceed.
In Addition
Applicants should know that, once accepted into the program, they will also need to:
- Complete a Live Scan fingerprint processing ($80)
- Obtain a 30-day Sub Permit ($100)
- Submit an application to LMU (fee req'd)
- Complete a CPR course
- Obtain a Certificate of Clearance (COC) ($55)
The Certificate of Clearance (COC) is for individuals seeking clearance for entry into a public school setting (observation, field experience, or student teaching). The COC is verification that you have completed the Commission on Teacher Credentialing fingerprint process (also called Live Scan).
